A wonderful opportunity for the dairy industry to honour the bravery and heroism of our war veterans, each year British cheeses are kindly donated by cheesemakers from all over Great Britain and presented to the pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The tradition itself dates back to 1692 when the hospital asked a local cheesemonger to provide the pensioners with cheese as a Christmas treat.
The Ceremony of Christmas Cheeses is very much a part of British history, and The Dairy Council is pleased to have been hosting this event for fifty years now.
